School Days a Smashing Success at The Pavilion

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion celebrates the success that was the 2024 School Days event! Over the course of two days, The Pavilion welcomed over 8,000 students and teachers from 36 schools from around the area. As part of The Pavilion’s non-profit mission, the transportation for Title I schools is covered by CWMP and the field trips are available at no cost to any of the participating schools. School Days at The Pavilion offers a variety of Arts activities to allow children hands-on experiences with fine arts and cultivate a life-long appreciation and passion for music, art and theater.

To kick off their School Days experience, students were transported to a barnyard as Main Street Theater put on farm-tastic rendition of Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, inspired by the children’s book by Doreen Cronin. The musical storytelling had the kids cheering and engaged with the chorale at the corral unfolding on stage.

Next on the agenda, DJ Willy Wow brought the party with his Grammy nominated children’s songs and captivating performance. His interactive show contained positive messages for the youth, such as to drink more water, do well in school and to have FUN! His tunes inspired the kids to get up and boogie!

Supplemental activities were also available for the smaller school groups to experience. Imagination Station’s Mark Kistler hosted a hands-on drawing class where kids learned drawing techniques and participated in a lesson to sketch, shade and create fun doodles.

After the discovery of Janet’s Planet, students learned it was not only a viable host for kids, but also for artsy extraterrestrial activities! They created STEAM oriented crafts, learned planet principles demonstrated through choregraphed songs and dances, all while mastering the fundamentals of star creation, gardening on Mars and so much more!

Conroe Youth Theatre put the “play” in playwright as students channeled their inner Shakespeare and dove into the world of theatre and play production. They learned about costumes and their designs, prop purposes and creation and were inspired to try out for their next school production!

The Pavilion thanks all its partners, event staff and volunteers who made School Days such a worthwhile experience for the children. Events such as these allow The Pavilion and its staff to further reach children whose positive encounters with The Arts can create a life-long impact.
