Over 8,000 Students Attend Two Days of Fine Arts Education Events

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – In the past week, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion hosted over 5,500 fourth grade students from Conroe Independent School District at The Pavilion, as well as over 3,000 students from Spring ISD at the Woodlands Church. With 63 local schools in attendance, the free Fine Arts Education Day events allow students the opportunity to experience music outside of the classroom in a whole new way.

“Both the Conroe ISD and Spring ISD Fine Arts Education Days were a huge success” said Jeff Young, President and CEO of The Pavilion. “We are so excited to see this program continue to grow from year to year and further align with our mission of providing the community with access to these high-quality artistic experiences.”

With a performance at The Pavilion on October 16th, The Houston Symphony, conducted by Gonzalo Farias, immersed CISD students into whimsical worlds such as ET and Harry Potter, and astounded with a finale from the notorious William Tell Overture. Engaging trivia and crowd interaction by the conductor kept the kids on the edge of their seats.

Spring ISD students experienced the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldier’s Chorus on October 22nd at Woodlands Church. A Texas-themed performance by the band encouraged participation and interaction with music ranging from the state classic of The Yellow Rose of Texas to Beyonce’s newest country hit.

Positive and tangible experiences with music can play a pivotal role in the life of a young student.

A familiarity with music at a younger age can inspire students to pursue a certain instrument in school, offer a new creative outlet and build a strong arts platform that can be expanded upon into adulthood. The arts education programs at CWMP are valued for that very reason, as they continue to offer chances for kids to interact with and have hands-on experiences with the arts.
